She’s Geeky Twin Cities…and a Chance to Up Your Style

July 13, 2010

As a geek at heart (I built Web pages in the 90s), I was so excited to learn about She’s Geeky.  It was started in 2007 by Kailya Hamlin as a way for high-tech women in the San Francisco Bay Area to support, educate and share experiences with one another.

On August 6-7, She’s Geeky is coming to the Twin Cities, thanks to Liz Tupper (@etupper) and Jacque Urick (@moarinternets), as a way for women working in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) to connect and network together.  This unconference is open to all women in technology, as well as women doing technology in non-technology fields.

And now, for the Fabuliss part…

On Saturday, July 17, Sasha Westin of Fabuliss (that’s me) and Gretchen Ditto of Ditto & Co. are teaming up to help a She’s Geeky Twin Cities attendee look her best.  The randomly selected attendee will receive a mini color analysis and we’ll help her shop her closet for an outfit to wear to the unconference.

We’ll also use the selected attendee’s closet at the She’s Geeky Twin Cities event.  We’ll mix and match her clothes and accessories for even more outfits that will give everyone ideas they can use in their closets.

Sasha’s specialty is shopping closets and stores to mix and match outfits that give you camera-ready confidence and Gretchen’s specialty is custom color and fit analysis that helps you learn how to shop for clothes that fit and flatter in every way.

So what are you waiting for?  Get registered…and good luck!

Fabuliss Introduces Diane Keyes & Her Memorable Style

June 7, 2010

Diane profile & full-length photos

I met Diane through a women-in-business Meet Up networking group and instantly fell in love with her because of what she was wearing.

What?  Did I just say that?

It’s true!  Her outfits are always fun, exciting and she’s always wearing a smile.

As a fellow entrepreneur (and author of two great books), she graciously allowed me to photograph her and use video of her for your viewing pleasure.

A few great quotes from Diane’s interview prep notes:

…Oprah has had the most influence on me. Her entire message, whether speaking about fashion or anything else, is to be true to yourself. Why should I be an imitation of someone else when I’m here to become my own best self?

I’d really like people to know that it takes less money and time to put together a coordinated wardrobe than to buy pieces that don’t work together…if you’re not a planner, the best investment you can make in yourself and your wardrobe is to hire Sasha.

Lastly, it’s incredibly charming that her two favorite scarves are from Ireland and Paris.

Are you ready to get serious about your style? Fabuliss can help!

Fabuliss Helps Kate Express Her Colorful Personality

March 30, 2010

Hello, Kate (with a "K")!

Kate is a huge inspiration to me on many levels as a genuinely happy and immensely creative individual.

She had a Fabuliss party awhile ago and has really embraced color into her daily routine.  I recently caught up with her colorful closet and fun assortment of accessories and pulled a few looks together.

Orange You Glad?

Orange is a great color on Kate’s olive skin.  The casual look on the left with skinny jeans, a sweater, knee-high riding boots and a funky necklace, is perfect for date night or girl’s night.  I love how the colors in the necklace pop off the sweater.

The dressier look on the right with tan trousers, a buttery soft leather jacket, a bright colored shell, a chunky necklace and those amazing boots, is suitable for networking or a work day at the agency.

The mix of colors and details really help Kate stand out in a crowd as an approachable, interesting person who looks fun and put together from head to toe.

One Dress, Two Looks

When I saw the dress, which has a beautiful embroidered braid down the front, I couldn’t help but pair it with Kate’s new boots for an edgier take on the dress.  This is a great date night outfit!

We kicked it up a few notches by adding a red cardigan, black belt and cute necklace, perfect for attending a party with girlfriends.

All Dressed Up

These looks are more classic while still incorporating Kate’s vivacious personality.  The red dress is to die for!  It fits Kate in all the right places and pairs so elegantly with a simple set of pearls.

On the right, the long sweater jacket provides structure while giving the purple blouse and pearls a chance to pop out at the neck.  I would recommend this outfit for a special work-related event like a holiday party in a more conservative environment or a networking event with business professionals.
